  • 2001: Ingvald Straume conceived the idea of a new concept for a wave power plant. The idea was conceived while playing with his young son. The first miniature model of the new power plant was made using plastic toy parts.

  • 2002/04: Engineers Ole Gabriel Kverneland, Øystein Holm and Erik Sauar joined the team. The concept was further developed from a single wave power concept, to a concept combining several wave power plants to bigger wave farms. A comprehensive business plan was written, and contact with “Innovasjon Norge” and the industry was initiated.

  • 2005: “Stiftelsen Miljøansvar” gave a grant of NOK 30 000,- for the building of a Prototype.

  • 2006: E-CO Renewable Energy Price granted the project NOK 100 000,- to further development of the concept. Prototype I was built and commissioned in Hjeltefjorden, near Bergen.

  • 2007: Straumekraft AS was founded in January 2007. The company took over the ownership of Prototype I. Single Phase Power AS carried out the first mathematical simulations of the wave power concept. The building of Prototype II was commissioned. Straumekraft AS reached the regional finals of the 2007 “DnB NOR Innovation price”. First patent application of the main technology for the Straumekraft concept.

  • 2008: Patent for the main technology granted for Norway. CMR Prototech is commissioned to make a verification of the Straumekraft model using an extensive mathematical simulation.

  • 2008: Prototype II sea trials, at the island Fedje, West of Bergen, in Norway, from May to December 2008. Successful demonstration of energy capture and conversion, and survibility of the core technology.

  • 2009: Idevekst AS carried out a strategic assessment on behalf of Straumekraft AS. A tender for a detailed design of each component of the power plant was sent to various companies in order to build a demonstration unit for the WEC named “The Fisherman”, and to make a concept design of the offshore wave farm named “Adwaita”.

  • 2010: Industrial design of Straumekraft’s land based wave energy converter completed.

  • 2010: Straumekraft developed wave powered freshwater production through reverse osmosis as a business area of interest, and started the process of designing an integrated system of reverse osmosis and the company's land based wave energy converter.

  • June 2011: Patent #4 granted, covering additional overload protection method and technology for submerging floats during storms.

  • July 2011: Straumekraft changes name to Purenco AS.

  • 2011: Prototype III design completed, integrating the Purenco “Fisherman” WEC with Reverse osmosis technology from Eide Marine Tech.
